St. Petersburg Beading Stitch (Single) – Bead Weaving Basics

Watch the Video

Hey beautiful! In today’s video, I will share another installment of my bead weaving basics series to show you how to create the classic St. Petersburg beading stitch (single chain version). Once you learn how to begin the beadwork, you will simply repeat the same few steps until the chain has reached the length of your choice. You may make a simple seed bead bracelet, or extend the length for a full necklace! Then, attach a clasp of your choice to the ends of the beadwork, as desired.

More Info: St. Petersburg Beading Stitch

There is an almost endless array of bead options that will work in the St. Petersburg beading stitch. You may also play around with using drop bead shapes, and bugle beads, which create a sort of beaded fringe from the bottom of the chain.

In addition to the single chain version of this stitch, there is also a double version (and more), which creates a chevron pattern with the beads. There will be a separate video coming later, which will cover this variation; however, the process actually begins with creating a single version of this chain.

I will also come back with a future video to share how to create the St. Petersburg beading stitch necklace, using the bugle beads as fringe. Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel, and/or sign up to my email newsletter to be notified when that lesson is live.
